Our Journey Since 2020

I took an interest in natural remedies during lockdown back in 2020. Just like anyone else might have, I feared the uncertainty that came with the pandemic. Was this all just going to blow over? Was my family going to get sick? How would this impact our economy? What will happen if we get sick and can’t go to the doctor? Over the counter medicines (and toilet paper) were flying off the shelves, food was becoming scarce, people were growing desperate as our collective panic rose, and hoarding ensued. Having a five-year-old and three-year-old at home, I couldn’t help but wonder what was going to happen when we inevitably got sick and couldn’t find a simple bottle of ibuprofen.

With nothing but a mother’s determination (and plenty of extra time on my hands due to social distancing) I began to research medicinal herbs. The thought process was that, unlike over the counter meds, herbs grow wild and abundant in my community. I found some amazing resources and spent a small fortune on books and herbs. It started with herbal teas and soups to help boost the immune system and stave off the virus that seemed to have the entire world in a choke hold. Then I learned how to make tinctures for all sorts of ailments from ADHD and anxiety to urinary tract infections and upper respiratory infections. My herbal endeavors were going great up until I went back to work and life went back to business as usual…and then I got really sick out of nowhere.

In 2023, I began having cardiac events like hypertension (high blood pressure), tachycardia (high heart rate), arrhythmia (irregular heart beat), and severe fatigue. I was also experiencing frequent urinary tract infections and overall poor immune response. After several trips back and forth to the doctor I was diagnosed with heart failure and placed on a handful of medications. While they did work well to bring down my blood pressure and heart rate, these medications made me feel worse than I did before taking them. They caused inflammation that started in my knees and elbows and eventually spread to my pancreas! The medication also caused debilitating fainting spells in which I would become extremely nauseous, lose all of the color in my lips and face, and eventually pass out. The back and forth battle of whether I should spare my heart and take the medicine or spare the rest of my body and quit the medicine was maddening.

Within months of diagnosis I had to quit my job due to frequent doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, and fainting spells. Once again, I found myself at home with nothing but time and determination on my hands. I buried myself in herbal studies and research, on the hunt for anything that might help me with my situation. The answer finally came in the form of two tinctures. The first was Motherwort tincture which not only helped to control my blood pressure and heart rate, but also worked like magic for my ADHD and anxiety. The second was Mullein tincture used as a diuretic for fluid retention that often accompanies heart failure. Over time, I noticed that the mullein tincture also improved allergy symptoms. Needless to say, I saw significant improvements in my heart health. I was no longer battling frequent urinary tract infections and hadn’t gotten sick with a cold or flu since beginning the tinctures.

The successful homemade tinctures inspired me to share my passion with the world. My mother, who had recently retired after nearly 30 years of service as a registered nurse, eagerly collaborated with me to build a business that focuses on natural remedies. I began taking courses and earned my herbalist certification in 2024. During that time, my daughter contracted ringworm on her leg…and I just so happened to be studying skin salves at the time. Without hesitation, I acquired all of the necessary ingredients to whip up a concoction that would target parasitic, fungal, and bacterial infection of the skin. My mother and I spent hours in her kitchen trying different recipes. The first two recipes were complete failures as we couldn’t figure out how to get the consistency right and kept running into separation and/or spoiling of ingredients.

I finally realized that the recipes we were finding weren’t working, so I leaned into my intuition and herbalist training. I applied all of the knowledge that I had gained in the courses with things I’d learned from my own personal research dating back to 2020. I developed my own recipe with much more success than the previous two…it just needed some adjustments to focus on the desired results. I tweaked the oil infusions, adding a few more herbs, and incorporated essential oils that would boost the healing and soothing properties of the salve. This is where we got Healer’s Touch, recipe number four, and it was a success! I applied the salve to my daughter’s ringworm infection two to three times a day. Within just 14 days the infection was gone! I was sharing photo updates with my family and friends every few days which led to others trying Healer’s Touch for a variety of skin conditions like rosacea, dermatitis, eczema, insect bites, and minor wounds.

Before long, friends of family and friends were wanting to know how they could get their hands on our Healer’s Touch which encouraged us to publish a website for easier purchase. We are always looking for improvements to our product so honest feedback is essential to our growth and development. We love hearing from our customers and seeing photos of what Healer’s Touch does for our consumers. It fuels my passion for natural remedies and funds the furthering of my herbalist education and research. My dream is to grow Heirloom Herbals into a business that provides other products such as custom tea blends, soups, tinctures, and other natural skincare products. My hope is that you, the consumer, will give our product a chance to prove what Mother Nature can do for you.
